Final Thoughts

Dear Professor,
This has been a truly incredible class. Words cannot explain how much I gained from you and how much I learned from this class. I don’t say this lightly that when I go into business this will be the class I take the most out of!
The semester started with learning Microsoft Word 2007. I happen to view myself as a pretty advanced with Microsoft word. What I quickly learned was that I in fact new very little about what word could do. We learned about the ribbon and all the special feature office 2007 has. After word we went to excel which I will talk about later. We ended the semester with Microsoft PowerPoint and Access. Although we didn’t spend a lot of time on PowerPoint and Access I still came away with some amazing new tools I didn’t know about beforehand.
I came into this class pretty familiar with computers and the amazing things they can do! As I leave this class I sit here amazed by not only how much I didn’t know but how much more I still have to learn. Even the minutest detail, like when you have storage space is filled, holding down the control key to log off is something I didn’t know beforehand!
I thought the textbook was straightforward and very clear as to step by step rules! More so then the textbook I found case graders to be the best help to rein enforce the lessons I learned in class. Excel was the thing I was least familiar with going into the class and I never realized how imperative it is to business and how much I will use it in my career. I learned all about it and it was incredible being able to get a head start on my job for the summer, creating a budget for a business.
I cannot conclude without a quick story. Every year for my dad’s business we use Microsoft Publisher to make a schedule of the conference my family runs for Passover. My mother spends about a total of 36 hours making changes to the schedule. At some point this semester I learned the Find/Replace tool and immediately after class I searched for it on publisher. As soon as I found the tool on publisher I called my mother, who (no exaggeration) was in tears with the prospect that I (really you who taught me this) saved her about 20 hours of work to do!!
I thought you would like this story as it is cute and personal! Professor Jorisch you are a true tzadik and a giant hearted person! I wish there could be more of you in the world! You have made a profound impact on my life and I can’t thank you for your endless kindness and love over the semester! I wish you only the best and may you continue to inspire everyone around you for many many years to come!!

Sincerely with deep appreciation,

Avi

powerpoint assignments

I must admit-- I have used powerpoint many many times and I would say i am pretty good at it...but after doing these case graders did i have a lot to learn.

On the first powerpoint i learned how to enter multi lever bulleted list and enter different tables and pictures and in class learned how to take an average presentation and make it look pretty exceptional

On the 2nd powerpoint i learned how to:
Change the layout of individual slides
Format text color on a slide
and add text to a shape

Things i never knew how to do!

I never knew powerpoint is so powerful!

Goes to show that sometimes even when you think you are good at something you always have more to learn!!

Excel Assignments

I have just completed 5 out of the 6 excel assignments on casegraders. I never in my life imagined how much you can do with excel. from regular spreadsheets to charts flowing with information. Formatting legends and absolute references. Excel has true wonders and the things i learned in this class i will use for my business and personal life. Excel is truly an amazing program that until now i never really knew much about! I look forward to utilizing it much more often now!!

My name and family history!

My full name in Hebrew is Avraham Yaakov Yerucham Lasko. My legal name is Avi Jeremy Lasko. In Hebrew Avi means my father. This is exactly what I am, in Hebrew I am named after both my maternal and paternal grandfathers. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to meet my grandfathers. Yet listening to all the stories that my mother and father use to tell me I am quite positive I have many of my grandfathers’ attributes. My drive for success and my caring for others was a definite trait of my maternal grandfather Avraham Yaakov. My will for perfection and always putting others before myself was said to be a characteristic of my paternal grandfather Yerucham. It is a true honor for me to be named after my grandfathers and although it is a heavy burden to carry on there incredible legacy I feel privileged to have the opportunity.
I am the last of 4 children born to my parents Sam and Arlene Lasko. My parents were both educators in many different Jewish day schools and high schools around the country. They lived in Albany, NY , Denver, CO and Baltimore, MD before moving to Hollywood, FL where the currently reside. My Father and Mother currently own a Passover tours business were they Operate 6 hotels around the country for the Passover Holiday. I could never have asked for better parents!
I have 2 older brothers and one older sister, who are already with beautiful kids. My oldest brother David is married to Amy and have four kids; Noah (16), Daniel (13), Jonah (8), Lielle (5). David is a practicing Pediatric Surgeon in Miami, FL. My other brother Jon is married to Ellen and have 3 kids named; Jordana (12), Ethan (10), Brendan (6). Jon is the president of Sysco Food groups division of produce in South Florida. My sister Lisi is married to Daniel and has 4 girls; Ariella (9), Kayla (7), Yakira (4) and Eliana (7 months). Lisi is a kindergarten teacher in the Hebrew Academy of Miami. I am truly privileged to have such an amazing family. They are truly what has made me into the man I am today!!

First Case Grader Assignments

The first case grader assignments were interesting. I enjoyed how the used real company documents for us to fix. The instructions were easy to understand and concise. I enjoyed the first assignments and got 100 on both of them. It was a fun and cool twist on the typical type of homework!

The wonders of Office 2007

Growing up in a generation of technologically savvy individuals, i became fluent in many computer programs including, many of which we will learn more about during this semester. Having spent a great deal of time on the older Microsoft, i became accustomed to to using many shortcut keys, and applications. I was a bit nervous when the new version was released that they had changed many of the applications which i had become so accustomed to using; i even made sure to order my new computer with the older version. Both through our first class and the online tutorial my interests were peaked and i cant wait what else the new Microsoft can do. I now believe that Microsoft 2007 is the perfect program, it is more user friendly and shortcut keys are not needed as much, many of the commonly used tools which were hidden in the older version are in plain sight for every user. I am now a believer and am confident that the possibilities are endless.
